Activation of Inactive Materials

By reviewing the conventional wisdom and finding phenomena that exceed the common sense, we will think about improving the world without being bound by prejudice.

Catalysts are commonly used to proceed difficult chemical reactions. The catalyst has a role of controlling the reaction barrier of the chemical reaction, but it has been considered that a substance having an extremely weak interaction with the reactant does not have a function as a catalyst. However, it has become clear that such an inert substance may be activated if certain conditions are met, exhibit high catalytic performance, and may be able to carry out a chemical reaction that was previously thought to be non-progressive. 

By clarifying the manifestation mechanism and reaction mechanism of such phenomena, we will construct a new concept for advancing chemical reactions that are important in energy processes and environmental processes, but have been considered difficult to proceed.
